List of top 5 gainers and losers in the Midcap and Smallcap segment for the week from 10 to 16 December 2021.

Going by the global cues of the FED keeping its policy rates unchanged, while tightening the pace of normalization, the Indian markets continued to be a preferred investment providing strength to the rupee. The rupee closed at Rs 76.09 for a dollar. The uncertainty of the spread and severity of Omicron prevails which will affect the future movement in the bourses.

Amid weak sentiments, S&P BSE Midcap Index closed the last trading session with a loss of 0.70% at 25150.46 and a weekly loss of 1.79%. The midcap segment witnessed a weekly high of 25521.49 and a low of 25065.74. The S&P BSE Smallcap closed at 29014.46 for the week with a loss of 0.65% on yesterday’s trading session with a weekly high of 29508.87 and a low of 28968.82. The smallcap segment however saw a gain of 0.40% for the week.

 The bull rally was led by Borosil Renewables Ltd. in the midcap segment. The shares of the company delivered a weekly return of 21.53%. The share price of the company rose from Rs 594.80 to Rs 722.85 during the period. The stock had hit the upper circuit of 5% in all the trading sessions of the week, registering new 52-week highs. On Thursday, it logged its 52-week high of Rs 722.85, on a year-to-date basis. The stock has rallied 340%. The company is the market leader for laboratory glassware and microwavable kitchenware in India. Its Scientific and Industrial Products (SIP) division sells laboratory glassware, instruments, disposable plastics, liquid handling systems and explosion-proof lighting glassware through its network of dealers spread ss the country.

The laggards of the midcap segment were led by Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd. The shares of the company fell 11.87% from Rs 2494.35 to Rs 2198.20. Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited (GFL), is a part of the INOX Group of Companies. The group has diversified business segments comprising Chemicals, Fluorospecialities, Fluoropolymers, Cryogenic engineering, Entertainment, Industrial gases and Renewable energy. The shares of the company tumbled on the report of fire at a plant at its Ranjitnagar site in which three people were killed and 10 injured. The shares fell 8.4% under pressure on breaking of this news.

The losers of small cap space were led by Paisalo Digital Ltd. The shares of the company fell from Rs 936.55 to Rs 803.40 registering a loss of 14.22% in the stock price. 

The stock was trading in red for the week and logged a loss of 8.01% in yesterday’s trading session. The company has a focus on microfinance and works with low-income families to provide financial solutions. It is also in the business of providing term loan and working capital support to traders and medium sized enterprises.
