What Are NSE Losers?

When you’re trading in the stock market, you need to stay updated about the latest price movements of stocks. During the course of a typical market day, the prices of some stocks increase and some decrease.

A Loser is a share or security that has not performed well in the stock market on a particular day. A share is termed a Loser if its stock price at market closing time was less than its stock price when the market opened.

All kinds of shares and securities are listed on stock exchanges. A stock exchange is a marketplace where traders buy and sell these shares and securities. The Indian share market runs on two stock exchanges:

1.    National Stock Exchange (NSE)
2.    Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)

Of these, the National Stock Exchange is the biggest financial marketplace in India. All activities at NSE are regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The performance of NSE is measured with the help of a stock market index called NIFTY 50, comprising the 50 largest companies listed on the National Stock Exchange.

All those stocks that are listed under NSE and have decreased in value over a fixed period of time are known as NSE Losers. An NSE Loser is a share or stock whose value has dipped on the NSE index. Traders like to keep track of the NIFTY top losers today and the weekly losers NSE points out to get an idea of the under-performing stocks.

How Are the Top Losers In NSE Determined?

NSE or NIFTY Top Losers are calculated by comparing the stock price at two different points of time. The stock price at the time NSE opens is compared to the stock price at closing. This value is determined in terms of percentage using this formula:

                           Current Price - Opening Price
NSE Loss  =      ----------------------------------------   x  100%
                                        Opening Price

This figure is expressed in terms of percentage, and because the opening stock price is greater than the closing price, this will be a negative figure, which confirms the intrinsic loss value of the stock being evaluated.

NSE losers are indirectly related to the NIFTY index. Here’s how the price movement of NSE Losers affects the stock exchange:

•    A rise in the number of NSE losers is a sign that the NIFTY will go down.
•    A decline in the number of NSE losers means that the market is doing well, and NIFTY is likely to go up.

In NSE, the biggest losers are determined by listing the NSE losers in order of the magnitude of the loss they have gone through. It means that the topmost NSE Loser will be the stock that lost the maximum value on that day.

How To Use the NSE India Top Losers List?

Most people think that staying updated about the share market means keeping track of the top Gainers. This is not entirely true. Any well-seasoned trader or stock analyst will tell you that keeping track of the stocks that have been the biggest NSE Losers today is as important.

The loss of value of an NSE Loser is expressed in terms of a negative percentage change. NSE Losers can be determined in terms of loss of volume (in shares) or value (in rupees).
