Nifty 50 index began flat with a bullish bias at 18,008.05, up from its previous closing of 17,992.15. Despite bleak global trends. On Thursday, leading Wall Street indices fell as the private employment data for December 2022 was higher than expected.

This implies a strong labour market, which suggests that the Fed may not be hesitant to raise interest rates. For stock markets, in the present scenario, it is widely held that any positive news is negative. In overnight trade, Nasdaq Composite fell 1.47%, Dow Jones Industrial Average was down by 1.02%, and S&P 500 fell 1.16%.

Nifty 50 was trading at 17,935.95 at 10:55 a.m., down 56.2 points or 0.31%. Broader market indices were trading in line with the frontline indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index sank 0.31%, while Nifty Small-Cap 100 index dipped 0.36%.

The advance-decline ratio on the BSE was slightly negative, with 1519 stocks rising, 1708 falling, and 139 staying unchanged. FMCG sector traded in green with metals, PSU banks, and realty trading flat, while all other sectors traded in negative territory.

According to January 5 statistics, both FIIs and DIIs were net sellers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold Rs 1,449.45 crore worth of shares, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 194.09 crore.
