Nifty 50 began the week's last trading session at 17,974.85 as opposed to its previous closing of 18,035.85. This was due to the lacklustre of global trends.

Global Markets   

The US Producer Price Inflation (PPI) increased 0.7% month on month (MoM) in January, sending leading Wall Street indices substantially down on Thursday. The PPI print was greater than the 0.4% estimate.

Furthermore, lower-than-expected jobless claims, a robust Consumer Price Index (CPI), and retail sales figures have increased the likelihood that the US Fed will continue its aggressive rate hikes. In overnight trade, Nasdaq Composite plunged 1.78%, Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.26%, and S&P 500 sank 1.38%.

At the time of writing, their respective futures were likewise trading in the red. Following global trends, Asian market indices slumped, with South Korea's KOSPI and Japan's Nikkei 225 indexes suffering the most.

Domestic Markets

Nifty 50 was trading at 17,989.4 at 11:08 a.m., down 46.45 points or 0.26%. Broader market indices fared mixed when compared to frontline indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index plummeted 0.42% and Nifty Small-Cap 100 index slid 0.02%.

Market Statistics

The advance-decline ratio on the BSE was favourable, with 1625 stocks rising, 1516 falling, and 169 staying unchanged. Except for media and metal, all other sectors traded in the red.

Both FIIs and DIIs are net purchasers, according to statistics as of February 17. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) purchased shares worth Rs 1,570.62 crore. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) invested Rs 1,577.27 crore in shares.
