Nifty 50 began higher at 18,259.1 on the final trading session of the year 2022, compared to its previous closing of 18,191. This was due to positive global trends. The leading Wall Street indices concluded in the green on Thursday, snapping a two-day losing run.
This was due to an increase in initial jobless claims in the US, which led to hope that the US Fed would slow down its pace of raising interest rates. In overnight trade, Nasdaq Composite rose 2.59%, Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.05%, and S&P 500 soared 1.75%. Asian markets are trading higher, mirroring the overnight trend on Wall Street.
Nifty 50 was trading at 18,213.2 at 11:20 a.m., up 22.2 points or 0.12%. Broader market indices outpaced frontline indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index climbed 0.69%, while Nifty Small-Cap 100 index advanced 0.95%.
On the BSE, the advance-decline ratio was positive, with 2343 stocks rising, 933 falling and 153 staying unchanged. Apart from pharma and private banks, all other sectors traded flat to green, with PSU banks, metals and realty leading the way.
According to December 29 statistics, FIIs were net sellers while DIIs were net purchasers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold Rs 572.78 crore worth of shares. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) purchased shares worth Rs 515.83 crore. FIIs sold shares worth Rs 11,280.2 crore in the month to date, while DIIs purchased shares worth Rs 21,892.93 crore.
