On the penultimate trading day of the week, Nifty 50 began flat with a bullish bias at 17,867.5, up from its previous closing of 17,858.2. This was due to positive global trends. However, at the time of writing, Nifty 50 is down from the day's high. Leading Wall Street indices concluded higher on Thursday as the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell for the sixth month in a row.
In overnight trade, Nasdaq Composite increased by 0.64%, Dow Jones Industrial Average up by 0.64%, and S&P 500 climbed by 0.34%. Asian market indices were trading higher, mirroring the overnight action on Wall Street. Except for Japan's Nikkei 225 index, all others were trading in green.
Nifty 50 was trading at 17,819.35 at 10:45 a.m., down 38.85 points or 0.22%. When compared to frontline indices, broader market indices performed mixed. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index dropped 0.58%, while Nifty Small-Cap 100 index was down 0.08%.
The advance-decline ratio on the BSE was favourable, with 1640 stocks rising, 1530 falling, and 158 staying unchanged. Apart from public sector banks and metals, all other sectors were flat to negative.
According to January 12 statistics, FIIs were net sellers while DIIs were net purchasers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold Rs 1,662.63 crore worth of shares. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) invested Rs 2,127.65 crore in shares.
