Upcoming IPOs in May 2022

The last week of April 2022 saw some sizable IPO action after a long time. Campus Activewear, India’s largest manufacturer of athletic and leisure shoes, raised Rs.1,400.14 crore by way of an offer for sale. It is a well known retail brand and as of the close, it had garnered 51.75 times overall subscription with QIBs leading the way, followed by NIIs and retail.

The other IPO of Rainbow Children’s Medicare was a combination of Rs.280 crore fresh issue and an OFS of Rs.1,300.85 crore taking the total issue size to Rs.1,580.85 crore. Rainbow started in Hyderabad in 1999 and has emerged as a robust name in paediatric care.

While the above two IPOs set the tone for the revival of interest in IPOs, the big news was the announcement of the LIC IPO. The LIC IPO opens on 04th May and closes for subscription on 09th May. The government will only be selling 3.5% stake against the original plan of 5% stake.

The total stake sale will be worth Rs.21,008 crore making it about 15% larger than the Paytm IPO. However, the valuations of LIC had to be toned down from Rs.12 trillion originally envisaged to Rs.6 trillion due to the global geopolitical scenario and the changed market conditions.

How will IPOs pan out in May 2022?

A long list of IPOs that have been approved are awaiting in the side lines for the completion of the LIC IPO. With the LIC dates being out, we should see a rush of other IPOs too in the coming quarter. Of course, a lot will eventually predicate on the success of LIC IPO.
