BSE 500: These stocks are trading with a price-volume breakout!
On Friday, Indian headline indices opened higher, defying most global markets that were trading lower amid weak global cues. The advance-decline ratio strongly remained in favour of advances with 1,702 shares rising and 1,334 shares falling on the BSE.
Despite the rise in indices, the majority of sectors were trading down. Investors were drawn to BSE Energy and BSE Oil & Gas sector which gained over 1%, while BSE Metal was the top losing sector with losses of more than 1%, dragged primarily by Jindal Steel & Power's over 4% losses.
Infibeam Avenues kept bulls busy in the BSE 500 category, with its shares skyrocketing more than 16%. Shares of Aegis Logistics, Narayana Hrudayalaya and Vaibhav Global were also heavily purchased.
At 10:20 am, the BSE Sensex gained 0.56%, reaching a level of 60,093. The Nifty 50 index advanced 0.51% to 17,827 level. On the Sensex, Reliance Industries, NTPC Ltd and Maruti Suzuki were the top gainers, whereas Sun Pharmaceuticals, Tata Steel and State Bank of India were the market draggers.
The rupee strengthened as Asian currencies rose and the dollar index fell as a result of the slowdown in the US. Despite growing worries that the eurozone is speeding toward a severe recession, the European Central Bank announced yet another massive rate hike to tackle rising inflation.
In other developments, experts predict that the Reserve Bank of India will keep intervening in the foreign exchange markets because the depletion of foreign exchange reserves is not now of great concern.
