Bharat Electronics Signs ₹2,167 Cr Contract with Indian Navy

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) witnessed a surge in its share price by over 2% on Wednesday, 14 February following the announcement of a contract with the Indian Navy. The state owned enterprise clinched a lucrative deal worth ₹2,167.5 crores to provide an indigenous Electronic Warfare (EW) suite for warships. This development highlights BEL's prowess in supplying advanced electronic solutions for defense purposes contributing to its performance in the market.

Contract Details

BEL sealed the contract with the Indian Navy on 13 February 2024 marking another milestone in its collaboration with the armed forces. The contract entails the delivery of EW systems designed and developed domestically by BEL. Additionally the company disclosed securing supplementary orders amounting to ₹114.59 crore boosting its portfolio in supplying a range of defense equipment including Software Defined Radios (SDRs), High Definition Very Low-Frequency (HD VLF) receivers and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) among others.

Its cumulative contract wins valued at ₹30,776 crore in the current fiscal year. Notably, BEL's shares have nearly doubled since touching their 52 week low of ₹89.68 on 16 March 2023. The company's strategic focus on manufacturing advanced electronic products for defense applications such as radars, communication equipment and naval systems.

Diversified Contract Portfolio

In addition to the recent contract with the Indian Navy, BEL has diversified its contract portfolio with various entities. In December the company announced orders worth ₹678 crore including a contract from the Uttar Pradesh government. This contract pertains to the development of an advanced emergency response system known as the UP DIAL 112 project, where BEL will provide hardware, AI-based software tools and cybersecurity solutions.

Furthermore, BEL has secured orders worth ₹233 crore for communication display units, thermal imaging cameras and miscellaneous spares and services. The company's commitment to innovation and excellence is highlighted by recent collaborations such as the contract with the Indian Air Force for the procurement of Light Weight Man Portable modern communication sets. BEL's sustained focus on enhancing its product offerings and expanding its clientele has positioned it as a key player in India's defense sector.

BEL reported a 40% increase in its net profit for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24, amounting to ₹859.6 crore compared to ₹613 crore in the previous year.
