Low Price Shares locked in Upper Circuit on July 27

Sensex rises 250 points; Nifty goes above 16,500 level led by capital goods and healthcare stocks. 

Except for Hong Kong's Hang Seng, all major Asian markets were trading higher. The Hang Seng was down more than 1%. With a loss of 60 points, the SGX Nifty indicated a dismal start for India's broader indices. In contrast, Indian headline indices were trading higher as capital goods stocks rose.

At 12:40 pm, the Nifty 50 was trading at the 16,564.20 level, gaining by 0.49%. On the Nifty 50 index, the top gainers were Divi’s Laboratories, Larsen and Toubro and Grasim Industries whereas Bajaj Auto, Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Finserv were the top losers of the session.

Sensex was trading at a level of 55,547.87, advancing by 0.51%. The top gainers were Larsen and Toubro, Sun Pharmaceuticals and IndusInd Bank whereas Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the market draggers.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered its prediction of India's gross domestic product (GDP) growth for the current fiscal year by 80 basis points to 7.4%, while rating agency Icra predicted that price erosion pressure would probably lead to slower revenue growth for Indian pharmaceutical companies in the US generics market in FY23.
