Asian stocks increased slightly on Wednesday in cautious trading, which was driven by a fading economic outlook and nervous anticipation of data that might reveal a new high for US inflation.

SGX Nifty indicated a flat opening for the broader index in India with a gain of 15 points. At 12:50 pm, the Nifty 50 was trading at the 16,035.25 level, falling by 0.14%. On the Nifty 50 index, the top gainers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd, JSW Steel and Cipla Ltd whereas IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel and HDFC Bank were the top losers of the session.
Sensex was trading at a level of 53,769.67, declining by 0.22%. The top gainers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Asian Paints and Kotak Mahindra Bank whereas IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel and HDFC Bank were the market draggers.
On the sectoral front, FMCG and healthcare stocks witnessed gains, while utilities and power sector stocks were the session's market laggards. As foreign investors continued to sell riskier assets ahead of US inflation data, the rupee hit a record low for a third straight session and was trading at 79.67 to the dollar.
