The top five gainers of Sensex were Titan Company, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Maruti Suzuki, and SBI. On the other hand, the top five losers on Sensex were NTPC, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Wipro, and Power Grid Corporation.

Nifty Midcap 100 index plunged 0.34 per cent and is trading at 30,033. The top three gainers of the index were Fortis Healthcare, Vodafone Idea, and Bata India. Each of these stocks advanced more than 4 per cent. Similarly, the top three stocks dragging the index include RBL Bank, Oil India, and Dixon Technologies.

Nifty Smallcap 100 index is trading at 11,135, up by 0.28 per cent. The top three gainers are IDFC, Alkyl Amines, and Trident. Each of these scrips jumped more than 6 per cent. The top three stocks dragging the index were Dilip Buildcon, HEG, and Vakrangee.

All the Nifty sectoral indices were trading in the green except for Nifty Oil & Gas, which was down by 7.3 per cent. Nifty Healthcare was up by 4.36 per cent, followed by Nifty Metal and Nifty Consumer Durables, which inched higher by more than 2 per cent.

The rate of Omicron cases in the country is almost doubling, due to which, most metropolitan state governments are imposing Section 144, with effect from today. This has led to the dampening of the spirits among the people in welcoming the New Year 2022.
