Despite poor global trends, Nifty 50 started the day in the green at 17,025.55. In overnight trade, the leading Wall Street indices performed mixed. This happened as the Bank of England hinted that its bond-market support will be extended for three more days before ending the emergency support programme.

On Tuesday, Nasdaq Composite sank 1.1%, S&P 500 plummeted 0.65%, and Dow Jones gained 0.12%. Dow Jones closed in the green after Morgan Stanley raised Amgen's shares outlook from equal-weight to overweight. As a consequence, this drugmaker's stock price increased by 5.7%.

At 11:51 a.m., Nifty 50 was trading at 17,044.6, up 61.05 points (0.36%). Broader market indices underperformed frontline indices. Nifty Mid Cap 100 Index was down 0.18%, while Nifty Small Cap Index was down 0.03%.

On the sectoral front, FMCG, IT, PSU banks and automobiles were the top performers, while media, metals and pharma were the biggest losers.

According to the data as on October 11, FIIs were net sellers while DIIs were net buyers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) sold Rs 4,612.67 crore worth of shares. Domestic Institutional Investors (DII) bought shares worth Rs 2,430.76 crore.
