Maruti Suzuki Invests ₹35,000 Cr in New Gujarat Auto Plant

In a major development on the opening day of the 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat, Suzuki Motor Corp., based in Japan, declared investments totaling approximately ₹35,000 crore in the region. The announcement was made during the summit's inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, a subsidiary of Suzuki, disclosed plans to invest ₹32,000 crore in setting up a new automobile plant in Gujarat. The facility aims to produce around 1 million vehicles annually and is slated to commence operations in the fiscal year 2028-29.

Boosting Electric Vehicle Production

In addition to the investment for the new automobile plant, Maruti Suzuki will allocate an additional ₹3,200 crore to introduce a fourth production line at its subsidiary, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt. Ltd. This investment is specifically directed at ramping up the production of electric vehicles (EVs). The new production line is designed to produce 250,000 units per year, increasing Suzuki Motor Gujarat's total annual production from 750,000 to 1 million units.

Suzuki Motor Corp. also has plans to export new models of Jawa bikes manufactured in India to Japan and European countries. This strategic move highlights the growth of India as a manufacturing hub and aligns with Suzuki's global expansion goals.

Maruti Suzuki envisions achieving a production capacity of about 4 million vehicles by the fiscal year 2030-31. This ambitious target reflects the company's confidence in India's role as a pivotal player in the global automobile industry. The announcement emphasizes India's emergence as the world's largest automobile hub, crediting the country's growth to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

Biogas Plants in Gujarat

Addressing the need for environmental sustainability, Suzuki Motor Corp. is set to establish biogas plants in Gujarat. The initiative includes the production of compressed natural gas, bio-ethanol, and green hydrogen. Leveraging India's abundant livestock resources, the company plans to produce biogas from cow dung in collaboration with the National Diary Development Board (NDDB). Already underway, Suzuki has commenced the construction of four biogas plants in the state.
