Following negative global cues, the domestic equities concluded with significant losses on Thursday. 

Fears of rapid rate increases by the world's central banks have investors all around the world on edge. The Nifty 50 index closed below the 17,550 mark. Due to the expiration of weekly index options on the NSE, trading was erratic. The S&P BSE Sensex, the barometer index, fell 770.48 points, or 1.29%, to 58,766.59. To reach 17,542.80, the Nifty 50 index dropped 216.50 points or 1.22%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index increased 0.48%, while the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index increased 0.57% in the overall market.

The India VIX, a measure of market expectations for short-term volatility, increased 6.27% to 19.87. Positive market breadth was present as 1,952 shares increased and 1,473 shares decreased on the BSE and 153 shares overall were unchanged. 

The Nifty was outperformed by the Nifty Realty index (up 1.08%), Nifty PSU Bank index (up 0.71%), and Nifty Auto index (up 0.37%). The Nifty underperformed the Nifty IT index (down 1.98%), Nifty Oil & Gas index (down 1.82%), and Nifty Healthcare Index index (down 1.36%). 

The yield on the benchmark 10-year federal paper for India decreased to 7.215 from 7.188 at the close of the previous trading session. The rupee fell against the dollar on the foreign currency market. The partially convertible rupee was trading at around 79.565 as opposed to the previous trading session's finish of 79.52. The 5 October 2022 closing price for MCX Gold futures dropped by 0.33% to Rs 52,045. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note was roughly 3.193%. The US Dollar index (DXY), which measures the value of the dollar in relation to a variety of other currencies, increased 0.31% to 109.04. Brent crude for October 2022 settlement dropped $2.22 or 2.32% to $93.42 a barrel on the commodities market.
