On Tuesday, domestic equity barometers fell marginally, after gaining almost half a per cent in the afternoon session amidst weaker global cues.

Sensex closed lower by 0.19% or 105.82 points at 54,36.85 levels whereas Nifty 50 ended 0.38% lower by 61.80 points at 16,240.05 level.

At the day's end, all the metal stocks lost their shine as the sector nosedived more than 5%. Power, Energy, Realty, Oil & Gas, and Utilities, sectors were also down by more than 2.5% up to 4%.

The top gainers on the bourses today were Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, UltraTech Cement, Maruti Suzuki, and Eicher Motors. Whereas the top losers were Tata Steel. Sun Pharmaceuticals, NTPC, Titan Company, Coal India, and ONGC.

The overall market dropped. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index dropped 1.98%, while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index dropped 2.11%. Buyers outnumber sellers as 870 equities increased on the BSE, while 2491 sank and 126 shares remained unchanged. VIX, the NSE's fear index increased by 1.23 % to 22.30

The yield on India's benchmark 10-year government paper decreased by 0.16% to 7.475%. Rupee fell against the dollar in the foreign currency market by 0.17%. The partially convertible rupee was hanging around 77.33, down from the previous trading session's closing. Price of gold futures on the MCX fell by 0.03% to Rs.50,290.

The crude oil price fell by 0.88% and was trading at USD 102.16 per barrel.
