The domestic equities benchmarks had a shaky session on Friday and closed close to the day's low.  

Shares fell across all industries, with the biggest drops occurring in the banking, financial, auto, and real estate sectors. According to preliminary closing statistics, the S&P BSE Sensex, the barometer index, fell 1020.80 points, or 1.73%, to 58,098.92. The Nifty 50 index dropped to 17,327.35 by 302.45, or 1.72%.

The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index and S&P BSE Small-Cap index both experienced declines in the larger market.

Market breadth was not strong as 1,002 shares increased and 2,472 shares decreased on the BSE while 113 shares in total remained unchanged.

Following the US Fed's astronomical rate hike and hawkish outlook to combat sticky inflation, investors' sentiment suffered.

The India VIX on the NSE, which measures market expectations for short-term volatility, increased by 9.44% to 20.59. The yield on the benchmark 10-year federal paper for India increased to 7.4334 from 7.312 at close of the previous trading session. The partially convertible rupee was trading at 81.015, down from its session-ending level of 80.79. The 5 October 2022 settlement price for MCX Gold futures fell 1% to Rs 49,500.

The US Dollar index (DXY), which measures the value of the dollar in relation to a variety of other currencies, increased 0.69% to 112.12. The 10-year bond yield for the United States increased by 1.52% to 3.764. Brent crude for November 2022 settlement decreased by $2.14 or 2.37% to $88.32 a barrel on the commodities market.

The Dow Jones index fell 230 points, signalling a weak start to today's trading in US stocks. On Friday, stocks all around Europe and Asia fell as investors warned that the world's growing interest rates might threaten the stability of global economic growth. On Friday, markets in Japan were closed due to a holiday.
