Throughout Monday's trading day, the benchmark indices were in negative territory. For the second day in a row, the barometers have lost ground. The Nifty index fell from an intraday high of 16,403.70 to finish just around 16,300. During the day, metal and FMCG were among the worst performers. Reliance Industries (RIL) shares slumped 3.97% after the company announced its Q4 earnings after market hours on Friday.

Global stock market weakness weighed heavily on sentiment. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 364.91 points or 0.67% to 54,470.67 on a provisional closing basis. At 16,301.85, the Nifty 50 index fell 109.40 points, or 0.67%. The BSE Mid-Cap index dropped 1.9%, while Small-Cap index fell 1.67%. The market breadth, which indicates the market's overall health, was low. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1,047 shares climbed and 2,417 sank, 150 shares remained unchanged.

The Nifty FMCG index dropped 1.47% to 36,732. In four trading sessions, the index fell 4.05%. Marico (down 2.78%), Nestle India (down 2.77%), Radico Khaitan (down 2.7%), United Spirits (down 2.1%), and Hindustan Unilever (HUL) (down 1.54%) were the worst performers among the Nifty FMCG index's constituents. Britannia Industries (-1.48%), Varun Beverages (-1.45%), ITC (-1.28%), Dabur India (-1.22%), and Tata Consumer Products (-1.22%) were among the other losers (down 1.04%). Colgate-Palmolive (India) (up 0.05%) and Godrej Consumer Products (up 0.02%), on the other hand, rose slightly.
