On Wednesday, the domestic equities benchmarks finished with significant increases.   

The Nifty managed to mount a significant rebound after falling as low as 16,438.75 in the early session, closing close to the 16,650 level. With PSU banks, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare equities rising the highest, there was overall strength. Investors were cautious ahead of the US Fed's upcoming announcement of its monetary policy on Wednesday, which will end a two-day meeting.

The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, increased by 547.83 points or 0.99% to reach 55,816.32 as per provisional closing data. To reach 16,641.80, the Nifty 50 index increased by 157.95 points or 0.96%. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index increased by 0.90% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index increased by 0.38% in the overall market.

Positive market breadth was present. 1,771 shares increased and 1,551 shares decreased on the BSE and 143 shares in total remained unchanged. On Tuesday, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered the prognosis for world growth and issued a warning that a recession would soon be approaching. The IMF predicted that the global economic expansion will likely drop this year to 3.2% from its April prediction of 3.6%.

The US stock market is expected to open up today, according to the Dow Jones futures, which were up 138 points. On Wednesday, European stocks rose as Asian stocks closed with mixed results. Investors eagerly anticipated the Fed's policy choice. The Federal Reserve is widely anticipated to increase its benchmark interest rate by 0.75 percentage points at the conclusion of its two-day monetary policy meeting on Wednesday.

US stocks closed Tuesday's trading session significantly lower as Walmart's profit warning hurt retail firms and unusually low consumer confidence data stoked concerns about consumer spending. The gross domestic product (GDP) growth prediction for India for the current fiscal year has been reduced by 80 basis points to 7.4% by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The growth prediction for FY24 has also been revised downward and is now pegged at 6.1%, down from 6.9% earlier.
