On Monday, the Indian equity indices saw a significant decline.

The investor’s sentiments were negative by weak global indications. The Nifty fell short of 17,500 points. Real estate, metal, and PSU bank stocks saw the biggest declines during the widespread selling. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 872.28 points or 1.46% to 58,773.87 as of preliminary closing data. To reach 17,490.70, the Nifty 50 index dropped 267.75 points or 1.51%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index lost 1.17%, while the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index dropped 1.80% in the overall market.

Market breadth was not strong as 1,264 shares increased and 2,274 shares decreased on the BSE, while 168 shares in total remained unchanged. The NSE's India VIX, a measure of the market's anticipation of short-term volatility, increased 4.11% to 19.04.

The broader market also displayed weakness, with the Nifty midcap closing down more than 2% and the smallcap index closing down more than 1%. The India Volatility Index (VIX) surged to finish at the 19-mark with a shift of more than 4%. All sectoral indices had negative closing values, with Nifty Metal, Auto, and Realty suffering the most on Tuesday. On the benchmarks, the leading gainers included Tata Consumer, ITC, Britannia, and Nestle India. Top laggards were Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Asian Paints, Divis Laboratories, Wipro, and Ultratech Cement.

After the business announced that it has agreed to acquire DB Power, which owns and runs a functioning 2x600 MW thermal power plant at Janjgir Champa District in Chhattisgarh, shares of Adani Power rose by 5%. After the company's standalone net profit increased by 145.5% to Rs 67.59 crore, on a 26.8% growth in revenue operations to Rs 552.89 crore in the quarter ended June 2022 over the quarter ended June 2021, Gillette India saw a 3.02% gain to Rs 5,485.05. The Dow Jones index futures were down 307 points, signalling a downturn in today's US stock market opening. On Monday, stocks in Europe and Asia fell as worries about rash Fed rate rises reappeared.
