The benchmark indices posted significant gains on Monday, closing to the day's high.

Positive global cues supported investors' sentiments. After making a low for the day of 17,359.75 in the early session, the Nifty finished above the 17,500 mark. While PSU bank, IT, and pharma shares fell, metal, private banks, and auto companies rose.

The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, increased 465.14 points or 0.80% to 58,853.07 on the provisional closing basis. To reach 17,525.10, the Nifty 50 index increased by 127.60 points or 0.73%. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index increased 0.31% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index increased 0.28% in the overall market. Positive market breadth was present. 1,945 shares increased and 1,548 shares decreased on the BSE and 177 shares in total remained unchanged.

 After One 97 Communications (Paytm) reported an 89% increase in sales to Rs 1,680 crore in Q1 June 2022 over Q1 June 2021, the company's shares increased 6.32%. Mahanagar Gas increased by 3.43%. Despite a 136.36 % increase in net income from operations to Rs 1,454.75 crore in Q1 FY23 over Q1 FY22, the LPG supplier recorded a 9.25% decline in net profit to Rs 185.20 crore. After reporting a combined net profit of Rs 102.08 crore in the first quarter of 2022, as opposed to a net loss of Rs 41.12 crore in the fourth quarter, Kirloskar Ferrous Industries saw a 6.64% increase. 

On Monday, stocks in Europe and Asia rose. In the April through June period, SoftBank Group Corp reported a $23 billion loss at its Vision Fund division. In contrast to a profit of 761.5 billion yen during the same period last year, the group's declining portfolio caused it to post a 3.16 trillion yen net loss in the most recent quarter. China released trade figures for July over the weekend, showing an 18% increase in dollar-denominated exports from a year ago. Compared to the same period in 2021, China's dollar-denominated imports rose by 2.3% in July, which was less than the predicted 3.7 % increase.
