Nifty 50 witnessed a gap-up opening at 17,438.75 as against the previous close of 17,311.8. This was a result of strong global cues. On Monday, key Wall Street indices jumped as the British’s newly appointed finance minister Jeremy Hunt made a strong amendment to the country’s fiscal policy.

Hunt overruled most of the economic plans of the former prime minister that had led to the turmoil. Said that, even the robust earnings from Bank of America lifted the market sentiments.

In overnight trade, Nasdaq Composite jumped 3.43%, Dow Jones soared 1.86% and S&P 500 climbed 2.65%. Tracking the positive cues from the Wall Street indices, Asian indices too jumped on Tuesday.

At 11:24 a.m., Nifty 50 was trading at 17,473.5, up 161.7 points or 0.93%. Broader market indices underperformed frontline indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index was trading up 0.56% and the Nifty Small-Cap 100 index jumped 0.59%.

With a weaker dollar, markets are expecting a tightening of crude supply amid rising fears of a global economic slowdown, and oil on Tuesday surged. Brent crude was up 0.17% to USD 91.8 a barrel, while WTI futures were trading at USD 84.7 per barrel. On the other hand, Natural Gas futures plummeted by 0.52%.

According to the data released on October 17, FIIs were net sellers and DIIs were net buyers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) sold Rs 372.03 crore worth of shares. Domestic Institutional Investors (FII) bought shares worth Rs 1,582.24 crore.
