Banking stocks boosted Indian domestic markets at a time when the majority of global indices were trading lower. 

Due to fears of a recession, Wall Street benchmark indices experienced a significant bloodbath overnight. The S&P 500 lost 2.11%, the Nasdaq Composite Index plunged 2.84%, and Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 1.54%

Indian domestic indices attracted global investors by showcasing an optimistic upward trend, while almost all Asian markets were trading lower, mirroring the heavy losses on Wall Street. Banking stocks rose sharply, with the BSE Bankex being the top gaining sector after the Reserve Bank of India announced a 50-basis-point rise in its policy rate. 

At 11:35 am, the BSE Sensex surged 0.83%, reaching a level of 56,880. The Nifty 50 index climbed 0.83% to the 16,957 level. On the Sensex, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and UltraTech Cement Company were the top gainers, whereas Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Asian Paints and Tata Consultancy Services were the market draggers. 

The BSE Midcap index advanced 0.30% and was trading at a level of 24,587 while the Smallcap index gained 0.56% and was trading at a level of 28,203.
