After a few days of relentless selling due to an economic slowdown, Wall Street indices surged in early trades overnight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 both finished flat, while the Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.25%.

The majority of Asian indices fell, with Hong Kong and Japan's indices plunging by more than 2% each. With a loss of 101 points, SGX Nifty indicated a gap-down opening for India's broader index. While the BSE Sensex was trading flat near the 57,000 mark, the Nifty 50 fell below the 17,000 level.
At 11:50 am, the BSE Sensex edged down by 0.05%, reaching a level of 57,078. The Nifty 50 index fell 0.09% to the 16,991 level. On the Sensex, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Asian Paints and Mahindra & Mahindra were the top gainers, whereas ITC Ltd, Axis Bank and Reliance Industries were the market draggers.
While BSE Energy and BSE Oil and Gas had the session's poorest performances, BSE Telecommunications was the session's top gainer. The broader markets outpaced the major indices. The BSE Midcap index gained 0.29% and was trading at a level of 24,625 while the Smallcap index advanced 0.31% and was trading at a level of 28,077.
