Indian headline indices trade lower on mixed global cues, with IT stocks being a major drag.

Following the market's worst day due to concerns about a recession and high-interest rates, US stocks rose modestly overnight. The highest gains were seen in energy stocks. The Nasdaq Composite index climbed 0.74%, The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.1%, and the S&P 500 advanced 0.34%.

SGX Nifty indicated a flat opening for the broader index in India. The benchmark indices in India opened marginally higher, but losses in the IT and real estate sectors rapidly drove the indices down. BSE Power was the top-performing sector, followed by BSE Utilities and BSE Auto.

Tamilnad Mercantile Bank shares suffered a lacklustre stock market debut when the company listed at Rs 495 per share on the NSE, down nearly 3% from its IPO issue price of Rs 510 per share. The stock began trading at 510 per share on the BSE.

At 11:45 am, the BSE Sensex declined 0.43%, reaching a level of 60,087. The Nifty 50 index lost 0.44% to 17,924 level. The top gainers on the Sensex were Maruti Suzuki, NTPC Ltd and Power Grid Corporation of India whereas Infosys, Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Finserv were the top losers.

In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap index fell 0.08% and was trading at a level of 26,203 while the Smallcap index edged up 0.02% and was trading at a level of 29,900.
