Penny Stocks Locked in the Upper Circuit on October 7, 2022

In line with declining global markets, domestic indices also trade lower amid losses in the FMCG, services, and metals sector stocks.

As investors evaluated data showing an increase in weekly jobless claims, Wall Street indices ended lower overnight. The S&P 500 lost 1.02%, the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 0.68%, and Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 1.15%.

Nearly all Asian indices were trading lower, mirroring the weakness on Wall Street, with Hong Kong and Taiwan's key indices being the biggest losers of the day. The SGX Nifty indicated a negative start for India's broader index.

With the majority of the sectors trading in the red, domestic indices in India started the day lower. BSE Consumer Durables and BSE Communications were the only sectors to post gains, while BSE Metals, BSE FMCG, and BSE Services all suffered significant losses.

At 12:10 pm, the BSE Sensex fell 0.57%, reaching a level of 57,887. The Nifty 50 index declined 0.60% to the 17,227 level. On the Sensex, Titan, Maruti Suzuki and Bharti Airtel were the top gainers, whereas State Bank of India, UltraTech Cement Company and Mahindra & Mahindra were the market draggers.

The BSE Midcap index slipped 0.84% and was trading at a level of 25,209 while the Smallcap index lost 0.29% and was trading at a level of 29,010.
