Penny Stocks Locked in the Upper Circuit on July 27, 2022

Domestic indices continue to rise, with capital goods stocks leading the way. 

The earnings warning from Walmart Inc increased concerns in the retail industry that consumers were reducing discretionary spending in response to rising inflation, which led to a drop in Wall Street indices overnight. Walmart stock fell more than 7%, while losses at Target and Amazon were about 3% and 5%, respectively. After strengthening due to the drop in crude oil prices, the Rupee depreciated to 79.88 against the US dollar.

In the opening session, Indian benchmark indicators were trading cautiously due to conflicting sentiments around the world. At 11:45 am, the Nifty 50 was trading at the 16,562.65 level, up by 0.48%. On the Nifty 50 index, the top gainers were Larsen and Toubro, Grasim Industries and Divi’s Laboratories whereas; Bajaj Auto, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Apollo Hospitals were the top losers of the session.

Sensex was trading at a level of 55,551.04, rising by 0.51%. The top gainers were Larsen and Toubro, Sun Pharmaceuticals and IndusInd Bank whereas; Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bharti Airtel were the top draggers of the session.

Stocks in the capital goods and industrial sectors witnessed gains. In response to news that Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) consolidated net profit grew 44.9% to Rs 1,702.07 crore in the June 2022 quarter, the company's shares gained by more than 3.5%. After losing all of its ground in prior sessions, Zomato's stock increased today.
