 Losses on the indices rise, with Reliance topping the list with a loss of more than 3%. 

All the major Wall Street indices fell on Friday as a result of investors becoming alarmed by Snap Inc's dismal earnings and a decline in the value of social media and ad-tech companies' shares. Shares of Snap Inc fell 39% as the firm failed to sustain in the face of competition from TikTok and Apple's iOS upgrade in 2021. The Nasdaq Composite Index plunged 1.87%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.43%, and the S&P 500 fell 0.93%.

The benchmark indices in India started the day with minor losses, mirroring the weakness in the global markets. At 11:40 am, the Nifty 50 was trading at the 16,584.10 level, slipping by 0.81%. On the Nifty 50 index, the top gainers were Tata Steel, Apollo Hospitals and IndusInd Bank whereas; Reliance Industries, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Eicher Motors were the top losers of the session.

Sensex was trading at a level of 55,613.94, falling by 0.82%. The top gainers were Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank and Bharti Airtel whereas; Reliance Industries, Mahindra and Mahindra and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the top draggers of the session.

The drop in the price of crude oil helped the rupee strengthen to 79.81 against the US dollar. According to data issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India's foreign exchange reserves dropped to $572.71 billion, the lowest level in more than 20 months, after declining by $7.54 billion in the week ending July 15.
