Metal stocks are driving strong momentum in domestic indices. 

US indices closed sharply higher overnight, led by advances in the technology sector, as investors waited for hints about the Federal Reserve's strategy. Nvidia Corporation shares rose more than 4%, while Tesla Inc fell after a three-for-one stock split. The Nasdaq Composite surged 1.67%, The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.98%, and the S&P 500 climbed 1.41%.

Domestic indices in India opened with respectable advances, powered by gains in the metal and consumer durables sectors. The BSE Metal index jumped 2%, with shares of the Steel Authority of India leading the way.

At 11:40 am, the BSE Sensex gained 0.41%, reaching a level of 59,017. The Nifty 50 index added 0.43% to 17,598 level. On the Sensex, Titan, Tata Steel and NTPC Ltd were the top gainers, while IndusInd Bank, Asian Paints and Bharti Airtel were the top losers.

In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap index advanced 0.78% and was trading at a level of 25,216, while the Smallcap index gained 0.69% and was trading at a level of 28,511. The rupee appreciated slightly against the US dollar, supported by foreign investment inflows and strong momentum in domestic markets.
