The gains in real estate and consumer durables stocks are driving up domestic indices.

Overnight, Wall Street indices ended marginally higher. While investors anticipated the US Federal Reserve's conference this week, gains in energy stocks boosted the major indices. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.41%, The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.18%, and the S&P 500 gained 0.29%.

Indian benchmark indices began the day with gains, reflecting the strength in the global markets. With gains of 1.20%, driven by Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals stock, BSE Consumer Durables is the top-performing sector. Healthcare and IT companies had marginal declines.

At 11:05 am, the BSE Sensex rose 0.51%, reaching a level of 59,386. The Nifty 50 index gained 0.48% to the 17,690 level. On the Sensex, Larsen and Toubro, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Maruti Suzuki were the top gainers, while HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services and Sun Pharmaceuticals were the top losers.

In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap index advanced 0.88% and was trading at a level of 25,189, while the Smallcap index added 0.82% and was trading at a level of 28,498. In line with the upward trend in domestic equities, the rupee strengthened to 79.80 against the US dollar.
