Penny Stocks Locked in the Upper Circuit on August 17, 2022

The major Wall Street indices saw conflicting sentiments overnight, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average rising while the Nasdaq Composite index declined. Walmart Inc's shares surged more than 5% after earnings exceeded forecasts. In July, US manufacturing output rose significantly than projected.

The Indian domestic indices opened with decent gains, mirroring the strength of global markets. Shares of Bajaj Finserv soared 7%, generating returns of nearly 40% in just one month. Following company approval of a stock split and bonus issuance in July, the stock continued to rise.

The top gaining sectors were BSE Telecom, BSE Utilities, and BSE Power, which lifted the indices. On the buyback of equity shares, Route Mobile Ltd was the leading gainer from the telecom pack.

At 11:25 am, the BSE Sensex advanced 0.58%, reaching a level of 60,187.73. The Nifty 50 index gained 0.57% to the 17,928.70 level. On the Sensex, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance and NTPC Ltd were the top gainers, while Mahindra and Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Maruti Suzuki were the top losers.

In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap index added 0.71% and was trading at a level of 25,199.43, whereas the Smallcap index rose 0.69% and was trading at a level of 28,387.84.
