Barometers closed with significant gains; the Nifty closes above 17,100, while Infosys climbed more than 3%.

Following strong global cues, domestic equities indices completed the day Friday with significant gains. However, the index lost ground in late trade as profit-taking increased at higher levels. Demand was high for IT, banking, and financial stocks. Shares of the auto, oil and gas, and real estate industries fell. The S&P BSE Sensex, the barometer index, increased by 684.64 points, or 1.20%, to reach 57,919.97. The Nifty 50 index rose 17,185.70 points, or 1.01%, to gain 171.35 points.

The indices were helped by gains from HDFC Bank (up 3.40%), HDFC (up 2.69%), ICICI Bank (up 1.90%), and Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 1.9%). As trade booked profits, the overall market underperformed the leading indices. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index increased by 0.01% while the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index decreased by 0.13%. Positive market breadth was present as 1743 shares on the BSE increased while 1711 shares decreased and 139 shares in total remained unchanged. 

The NSE's India VIX, a measure of the market's expectation of short-term volatility, fell 10.01% to 18.26. The yield on the benchmark 10-year federal paper for India increased to 7.470 from 7.422 at the close of the previous trading session. The rupee edged up against the dollar on the foreign currency market. The partially convertible rupee was trading at 82.19, down from its previous trading session's closing of 82.24. Gold futures on the MCX for payment on December 5 fell 0.73% to Rs 50,514. The US Dollar index (DXY), which measures the value of the dollar in relation to a variety of other currencies, increased by 0.31% to 112.72. The yield on US 10-year bonds decreased by 1.33% to 3.901. 

Brent crude for December 2022 settlement increased 70 cents or 0.74% to $93.87 a barrel on the commodities market. The futures for the Dow Jones index were up 180 points, signalling a solid start for US stocks today. On Friday, shares rose everywhere in Europe and Asia, following overnight indications from US stocks.
