Penny Stock Update: These shares gained almost up to 20% on June 10

It was carnage on Dalal Street as both the headline indices lost nearly 2% each in today's trade.

The domestic equity indexes finished with hefty losses at the day's low, resuming their losing streak after a day's reprieve. The Nifty finished just above 16,200 points. The NSE's sectoral indices were all in the red at the end of the day. Significant selling pressure has been noted in financial services, computer technology, and oil and gas stocks. Investors were cautious ahead of today's release of US inflation statistics.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell 1,016.84 points to 54,303.44, or 1.84%, while the Nifty 50 index lost 276.30 points to 16,210.80, or 1.68%. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was down 0.64%, while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index fell 0.70% in the broader market. Buyers were outnumbered by sellers. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1,311 shares climbed and 1,995 declined, 123 shares remained unchanged.

Today, the Nifty Financial Services index fell 2.24 % to 15847.3. Over the last month, the index has dropped by 1%. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd, Bajaj Finance Ltd, and Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company Ltd were among the members that slid 3.94%, 3.92%, and 3.82%, respectively. Over the last year, the Nifty Financial Services index has dropped 5.00%, compared to a 2.95% growth in the benchmark Nifty 50 index. On the other hand, the Nifty IT index is down 2.17% on the day, while the Nifty Services Sector index is down 2.12%.

The Dow Jones futures were down 62 points, signalling that the US stock market would open lower today. European markets slumped across the board on Friday, while most Asian stocks also dipped as investors awaited the release of US inflation data later in the day.
