Domestic indices expand their losses once again after trimming them earlier.

As a result of the economic downturn, Asian markets experienced a sharp decline. With indices in Australia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong plunging by around 2% each, all of the main Asian indices were trading in the red territory. SGX Nifty's drop signalled a poor start for India's broader index.

Indian benchmark indices opened with severe losses but recovered part of those losses thanks to gains in the telecom and real estate sectors. The majority of the sectors were trading lower, with BSE IT and BSE Teck ranking as the two biggest losers. All of the Sensex IT constituents were the session's leading draggers. Surprisingly, half a per cent was gained by the BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices. Shares of Dish TV India soared and secured a 20% upper circuit, making them the top gainer in the BSE Smallcap pack.

At 1:10 pm, the BSE Sensex slumped 1.17%, reaching a level of 58,840. The Nifty 50 index declined 1.15% to the 17,555 level. On the Sensex, Bajaj Finserv, Asian Paints and Bharti Airtel were the top gainers, while Tata Consultancy Services, Reliance Industries and Infosys were the top draggers of the session.
