Sensex and Nifty 50 swung between modest gains and losses and were helped by auto and metal stocks to pare some of their initial losses and move higher. At 12:15 pm, the BSE Sensex fell 0.19%, reaching a level of 58,663. The Nifty 50 index declined 0.18% to 17,457 level. On the Sensex, Mahindra and Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv and Bharti Airtel were the top gainers, while Infosys, Tech Mahindra and Tata Consultancy Services were the top losers.

The rupee depreciated to 79.88 against the US dollar as a result of the US dollar's strength and the increase in oil prices. Tuesday witnessed a modest increase in oil prices after Saudi Arabia warned that OPEC would reduce output to offset a recent decline in oil futures.
