Nifty 50 closed in red in today's trade with a fall of 208.30 points, though it opened in green at 16900.65 against the previous close of 16871.30, which means a gap up of 29.35 points. It however lost ground in due course of trading. The breadth of the trade was negative as there were more stocks that closed in red. At close advance to decline ratio stood at 134:356.

In today’s trade, the best performing index was NIFTY AUTO which was up by 0.57%. This is followed by NIFTY FMCG, which was up by 0.17%. The worst performing index in today's trade was NIFTY METAL. It was down by 4.07% led by name such as Tata Steel. Out of the total 15.0 companies forming part of the index, 13.0 companies closed in red, and 2.0 closed in green.

Companies that supported Nifty 50 in today’s trade were 'TATA Cons. Prod', 'M&M', 'Titan Company, 'Shree Cements' and 'Maruti Suzuki' together they contributed around 21.4 points gain in index. While the companies that dragged the index were 'JSW Steel', 'HDFC', 'HDFC Bank', 'Infosys' and 'Reliance Industries'. These companies contributed 137.05 points towards the Nifty 50 fall.
